Seiko 5 SNK809 — the 37mm classic, with a price warning

Why it lands: the gateway mechanical Seiko — 37mm, a legible field dial, an exhibition back. Who it suits: a casual, military-styled taste; a nylon strap person. Check before you buy: Seiko discontinued this line, so the remaining stock is priced by sellers, and at recent checks it has cost more than a current Seiko 5. Bracelet or strap?

For a smaller wrist a strap is the safer gift: it buckles to size and can be swapped for color or width in seconds (here's how). The Tsuyosa and the PRX 35 are integrated-bracelet watches, which is exactly their appeal — but it means the bracelet is the watch (only the maker's own straps fit); if you go that route, either learn her wrist size or plan a jeweler visit for the link removal.
